Kazuo Ohno Festival 2006


【The Kazuo Ohno’s Centenary Project】
2006 Oct.27(Fri.)-29(Sun.)

Starting on Oct.27, the Kazuo Ohno’s 100th birthday, Kazuo Ohno Festival 2006 will be held at BankART1929 in Yokohama till Oct.29.
Kazuo Ohno Festival has been held intending to establish the Kazuo Ohno Archives in Yokohama. During Kazuo Ohno Festival 2006, those materials which belong to Kazuo Ohno Archives will be open to public at BankART1929 Yokohama. This year Kazuo Ohno Archives starts to rebuild and preserve the Kazuo Ohno’s workshop studio as the most important treasure of the archives besides of the routine work of collecting and sorting materials.
 There will be an exhibit of the new collection of photographs “A butterfly’s dream : a Butoh dancer, Kazuo Ohno”taken by Eikoh Hosoe, who has been shooting Kazuo Ohno since 1950s. The new film on Kazuo Ohno directed by Koki Tange, a rising film artist,in this July will be shown as well. In the memorial of Swiss director Daniel Schmid, who passed away suddenly this August, 3 Schmids’films featuring Kazuo Ohno will be shown. Inuhiko Yomoda, a film historian, will give a lecture on the relationship between Daniel Schmid and Kazuo Ohno. As part of the project of Kazuo Ohno Archives,“Kazuo Ohno:Reflections of 1000 People,”Tamotsu Watanabe and Fumiaki Nakamura will give lectures and Yoshito Ohno will present a new Butoh piece with a hand puppet.

Happy Mid-autumn Festival!


People in different places follow various customs, but all show their love and longing for a better life. Today people will enjoy the full moon and eat moon cakes on that day.
The moon looks extremely round, big and bright on the 15th day of each lunar month. People selected the August 15 to celebrate because it is a season when crops and fruits are all ripe and weather pleasant. On the Mid-Autumn Festival, all family members or friends meet outside, putting food on tables and looking up at the sky while talking about life. How splendid a moment it is!

爵士眼中的上海 上海眼中的爵士

上海的音乐趣味与感性扩张,被定格在爵士上是很久的事了。

爵士在中国的命运,以上海和北京为例,正好颠倒了个。前些年,北京爵士音乐节半途夭折,中国爵士元老刘元的北京爵士酒吧被迫关门,而上海完全不同,尽管七八年前,来演出的爵士大师还都是从北京转道而来。但这些年,上海的爵士情境不再是百乐门的梦中臆想,大师与准大师的频繁上门表演,专业爵士酒吧的越办越火红……爵士俨然是精英叙事和解读怀旧的密码,一道离纽约格林威治村几万万公里遥远的光环,它悄悄描摹了都市的身份。

那些曾经被我们看得很高的海上爵士盛况,在半个世纪后一直在全世界范围延续。以上海为主题的爵士曲子也层出不穷,最典型的是大师Wayne Shorter,他创作了一组以远东为主题的曲子,其中包括反映当年上海百乐门娱乐场所的《麻将》,我是很不满这个大师使用这样的名字的,因为即使在李欧梵的“上海感性”的描述中,那时候的舞厅装饰充满了艺术感。就像蔡嘎亮这样的玩意是不登“大雅之堂”的,关于郭德纲的草根文化的符号意义,和邵洵美那张典型的带点贵族气的侧影风马牛不相及,把邵洵美拿出来提,无论你如何地有歧义,但那是上海气质的,并在当今的酒吧文化里延续着这种气质。

我们可以在王安忆的《长恨歌》以及改编作品里,割裂现实而慢悠悠地让时间停滞不前。但那年头的上海爵士真的是歌舞升平的舶来品,和美国三四十年代彼岸风景是对应的,舞池边的大乐队,逃避战争创伤的麻醉品。

爵士后来的觉醒与变革,在和平饭店老年爵士乐团的表演中是看不到的,人总活在属于他自己的那个时代里,如今依然被外国客人所瞻仰的这道上海旅游胜景,成了人们想象过去的残留遗迹。一个叫Ian Widgery的西方人,几年前把上海三十年代的娱乐世界重新混音出版——《百代唱片重修旧好》,听到了白光和周璇的声音,这个老外是态度诚恳的,他也无意歪曲他心目中的海上繁华。可能,现在的人不会明白当年诞生了第一支全华人爵士乐队 ——“杰美金”是多么不容易。

蔡明亮在某部电影里用了很多老上海的歌,但那不是上海。而《百代唱片 重修旧好》把老上海的歌改编得面目全非,但那是上海。说了老半天,所谓爵士是上海的某种气息。

上海爵士酒吧一直可以絮絮叨叨下去,而上海摇滚酒吧多数因一时威猛而“毙命”。爵士,在上海一直是顺应的,而不是重塑。如果你细心的话,就会发现这个城市的爵士评论反而是缺失的,至少没有出现像台湾孙秀蕙领头的乐评人年终评点唱片的不俗举动,一本本爵士世界书籍的出笼并不能涵盖一种民间立场。倒是要提提专家眼光的问题,专业和业余的力量有时候是倒置的。上海爵士乐迷如何专业,如何盼望一流大师的不朽现场,对于某些关起门来的决策者是很遥远的一件事。就在前一两年,还有把在上海酒吧打工的老外乐队组织起来的音乐节。但是,这种瞒天过海的行为也永远成不了辉煌手笔。

爵士在给上海这座大都市定位?当然它不是怀旧的了。

Booming China ¿ the youngest generation

China is undergoing an explosive development that the West is hardly able to follow. An unbelievable number of Chinese people are approaching life with an endless amount of energy. What does this mean for young artists working in this climate? Is ‘serious music’ also evolving? The composition departments of the conservatoriums in Shanghai, Peking and Wuhan are currently populated by girls no older than twenty. Some of them compose functional music, others are more experimental.
New Ensemble’s Young Chinese Composers Competition opens the door for all of them. The winning works are rehearsed in the presence of the composers and will receive their premiere during the course of this programme.

Weather in My Brain Sound-Visual Art Festival 2005 Open call for entrees

2003 The first Weather in My Brain happens at the 284 Substitude Space, with a group of Taiwanese artists spontaneously taking part.

2004 The second Weather in My Brain at Huashan Arts District happens over five successive days, a banquet of avant-garde sound and visual art featuring Zbigniew Karkowski (Poland), Takagi Masakatsu (Japan), Dickson Dee (Hong Kong), Otomo Yoshihid (Japan), guitarist SXM (Czech), Keiji Haino (Japan), and several Taiwanese performers, including Weathermen and KbN.

2005 The third Weather in My Brain Sound-Visual Art Festival is set for December.The event will include four sections: Weather in My Brain Sound – Visual Art Festival Performance Series, Weather in My Brain Music Video Festival, Weather in My Brain International Sound – Visual Art Forum, and Weather in My Brain Taiwanese Open Exhibition/Performances. For the long term, it is also planned to establish a Taiwan Sound – Visual Artist’s Community.

Performance applications for Weather in My Brain Sound – Visual Art Festival:
Applicants must submit at least one video or sound work. Those submitting three or more will receive preference.
Those accepted will perform in a lineup of Taiwanese and international participants, be included in the festival catalogue, receive a pass to the festival, an invitation to the International Exchange Forum, a festival DVD, and other Weather in My Brain commemorative stuff.

Music video applications for Weather in My Brain Music Video Festival:
There is no limit to the number of music videos that may be submitted. Accepted works will be shown as part of the Weather in My Brain Music Video Festival and be included in the festival catalogue. Directors will receive a pass to the festival, an invitation to the International Exchange Forum, a festival DVD, and other Weather in My Brain commemorative stuff.

不得不提及专辑中犀利的制作人:有现签于Novamute英国舞曲公司的T. Raumschmiere(不止玩Electro Punk / Tech House,他前期作品是很不错的Minimal舞曲,应该找来听听),2004年来中国演出,大名鼎鼎的环境乐队The Orb成员Thomas Fehlmann等人。所以没听之前也不会有太大疑异其水准的问题。

这张去年底在德国Monica发行的76/77,比起很多同类半电子半朋克摇滚的专辑来说,做得精致很多。没有刺耳的声效的同时并不代表缺失棱角:不亚于Ladytron的甜美女声(更有可塑性),流畅的合成器,轻快的节奏,甚至有其他风格(Trip Hop、Funky Beat)和谐地融合其中。

广州现代音乐节的组织者已经不止一次报料,该女子乐队的现场会十分的HOT (她们首张专辑可是在Alec Empire创办的德国数码硬核厂Digital Hardcore Recordings 发行的吔,两个恐怖的女人)!我想去广州动物世界现场看看……

Cobra Killer由两位女生Gina V D’Orio和Annika Line Trost于柏林组建,曾担任音速青年(Sonic Youth)欧洲巡演暖场乐队,受到主音Thurston Moore的赞赏。

眼镜蛇杀手说她们想用音乐去治疗听众。看看她们的听众就能立刻明白为什么这样说,她们对听众就像有着良好疗效的药一样。而她们的乐迷里几乎没有人可以逃脱酷爱穿戴奇怪装束的Gina V的魔爪。

Gina V和Annika是极度的红酒爱好者,她们要做的基本上就是把音乐和红酒扔到听众的脸上,然后让现场陷入疯狂。秉承她们现时所属厂牌MONIKA的传统,眼镜蛇杀手讨厌以前电子现场的愚钝表现,穿着华丽制服的她们大玩60、70年代的旧跳舞风,并混合车库摇滚与Techno音乐,以及颠覆性的歌词。

Thurston Moore这样评介这队让他又爱又恨的乐队:“前几个晚上我们和一个叫做眼镜蛇杀手的乐队在德国一起做了几场演出,她们太厉害了……当然有时也让人抓狂,不过我喜欢她们。”
